I like to work with various media and alternate between printmaking/painting on paper, painting clothing, carving in bone, wood and pounamu (greenstone), making jewellery with semi
precious stones, glass beads, weaving flax and rimurimu (bull kelp) into baskets. Most of my work depicts nature, plants, and animals, or patterns made in the sand or water by rain, wind, and tides.
I live in a beach cottage close to the water at Waipapakauri Ramp on the West Coast of the North Island of New Zealand near the top, the Far North. I love to walk my 2 labradors twice a day, rain or shine, on 90 Mile Beach and through the Aupouri Forrest.
I started painting and carving at a very young age and knew then when I grew up I would be an Artist.
I exhibited my work in Vancouver BC until 1987.
I then left on my sail boat with the destination of the Caribbean. I lived and worked there for the next 5 years, then decided to sell the boat and travel through SE Asia and India for the next 2 years. While travelling, New Zealand kept cropping up and I decided to try it as my new home.
New Zealand is very similar to Canada with exception of the climate, especially in the Far North and I felt that I had finally found myreal home. In 1997 I became a Kiwi Citizen. The Far North inspires me daily with the culture, landscape, people and climate, all enticing me to create.
